RE: Myrtle Beach, boat cruise?

There is a boat trip along the Waccamaw River in Murrells Inlet. It is based at the Wacca Wache Marina. If you are into nature you will love this tour....
Also, there is a boat tour of historic old Georgetown....

With seven days to travel home, I would suggest that you travel west to Skyline Drive and visit the Shenandoah National Park...

RE: Best Myrtle Beach Campground Beach

Crowe,
Unfortunately, in August, you might find it near impossible to get a site in any of the beach campgrounds. I also suspect that MB will be more of a "zoo" this year as the Hard Rock Amusement Park will be open and they estimate 20K visitors a day.
"beaches of interest"? Are you looking for fishing...shells...interesting critters???

RE: Questions about Raleigh, NC

Raleigh/Durham is a great place to live... Your problem won't be the weather (humidity), it will be which one of the many many wonderful communities you will choose to live in...
Think... NC State.... UNC...and Duke within 20 miles of where you will live.... They call this the "Triangle"....

RE: First time to Myrtle Beach

Since you are in North MB, you might want to spend a day on the SunCruz Casino boat. It is docked in Little River.
MB also has a baseball team... You will see good baseball as it is one of Atlanta's farm teams..
MB also has a stock car race track... Located on the 501 next to the outlet stores.

RE: CAN'T GET A RESERVATION!!!

Because of the situation you are finding, many people book multiple dates, sites/campgounds well ahead of when they would like to do their vacation. When it gets close and they have their scheduled vacation times, they often cancel the other reservations. The penalty for such action is generally minimal (often 1 days rental). You need to keep calling (several times daily) the campgrounds of interest to you. Also, some have waiting lists... Register for the full seven days as I suspect that the penalty for cutting your holiday short will be minimal (again, perhaps one day's rental).
I also suspect than given the costs of fuel, many campers who need to travel long distances will will elect to cancel out and camp at locations nearer their home. If this is the case, the MB campgrounds may be more willing to negotiate as they don't make money when sites are empty...

RE: Relocating, Need Some Help - Please

Back to the posted question.....
We relocated and retired several years ago.... With this experience behind me, I suggest that you rent for a year prior to buying or building a house... While you will find many impressive new developments and quality older neighborhoods in the area you are locating, you will, over this period of time, discover that many are not as wonderful as they appear to be.... Get to know the area and people prior to any substantial investments...
Take a look at Cary NC (just outside of Raleigh)....

RE: Solar panels 1, redwoods 0

Perhaps the State of California could legislate, via proposition, the shifting of the earth on its axes there-by mandating that the sun be higher in the sky during the hours in question.

The Pavillion is no more. The new Hard Rock Amusement Park will be open this summer... It is located just off of the 501, in the same area where the Pottery place and factory outlet stores used to be located....

RE: 4th of July in Myrtle Beach---what to do?

You might want to take in a Myrtle Beach Pelicans game... They are a single A farm team for Atlanta. Tickets are reasonable and they generally have a great fireworks display... If you choose to do this, you should purchase your tickets early as they will sell out fast.
If you choose to go fishing, MB State park has a fishing pier and Huntington has the Jetty. The Jetty is about a mile beach walk from the north beach parking area. The nature walk in Huntington is also fun and very educational... Costs for a state park visit is $5.00 for adults... I'm not too sure as to what it costs for children... Someone at your campground might have a park pass which would enable you and your family to visit the park at no cost...
Murrells Inlet (my town) also has the 4th fireworks along the marshwalk... There are good eateries along the marsh, but they tend to be somewhat expensive. If you choose to eat there, I recommend Drunken Jack's as the food is good and the view is great..
enjoy,

RE: Any Shortwave listers out there?

That is a nice radio. I gave my son one for Christmas. You need to attach an antenna to the unit as the antenna(s) that come with it are rather useless. The standard broadcast and shortwave frequencies of the radio use an internal ferrite antenna. The FM component uses the whip antenna. The back of the radio has an external antenna connection. Get yourself some 20 - 22 gauge wire (50' - 100') and string it from your radio... Hopefully outside and as high as possible. This "long wire" antenna will substantially improve your reception of both broadcast and shortwave signals.
Check out this web page as it will give you some foreign shortwave broadcast stations and their frequencies..

RE: $200,000 Mustang?

I suspect that there are many folks out there who would suggest that any person who would spend over $100K on an RV should have their head examined...
The old saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!" rings true here... Some see beauty in cars...others in RV's....
